This was a landmark year for us, with both of us officially retiring. Nowhere near ready for our rocking chairs, our new status provided us with plenty of additional opptunities to spend more time with family, travel, and of course, take lots of pictures.
As proud grandparents, this section has lots of pictures of the kids. Frank arrived on the scene in March and it is a real pleasure to see his happy face. They grow up so fast, it is nice to have a record of their progress.
We got to know the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway very well during the first part of the year, as we made many trips to White Plains to get Dsad's house ready for sale. tip: At 2:00 AM, there is very little traffic on either roadway.
This was a banner year on our home fix-up front. We did our part to help the economy with our spending to get a lot of things done that we had talked about doing for years.
We both love to travel.
To say that the Oasis of the Seas is a big ship is still an understaement. The one picture in the Nassau harbor visually shows the comparison with three other regular size cruise ships. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on board. We had never been to Nassau before, so these trips gave us a chance to explore. On St. Thomas and St. Martin, we used our shore time mostly to enjoy the beaches.
We had planned a trip to Hawaii as part of Michael's retirement celebration. We've been there many times before, so this was a nice relaxed trip revisiting some of our favorite places on Kauai and the big island of Hawaii. No red lova visible on Hawaii this time, but we did have some great snorkeling days. Michael had an exceptional diving experience -- night dive with giant manta rays [video included].
We spent a pleasant week in the Massanutten Resort near Harrisonburg, Virigina. The resort itself has a lot of available activities and it is only a few miles frm the Skyline Drive. We took a day trip there -- one big highlight for us was seeing a black bear fairly close up.
Once again this year, Michael was blessed with a plethora of 'bug' photo opts. I really enjoy finding interesting insects, particularly those close to home so that I go back and visit several days in a row. Usually, if I don't know what kind of bug it is, I look it up sometimes not a trivial task] once I get home [. It is always educational! Of all of this year's 'finds', I was most intrigued by the saddleback caterpiller. I was glad I didn't pick it up and handle it. It's spines are toxic.
And just in case you haven't seen enough pictures already, here are the links to other albums, mostly vacation pictures.
